RT9: Reflection

I really enjoyed my emergency medicine rotation. I rotated through the main emergency room, urgent care and pediatric ER. I was able to work with different attendings, residents and PAs which was highly beneficial in my education as I got to see different techniques of history and physicals as well as different procedure techniques. I was able to utilize the rare down time that I had by asking nurses if I could perform IVs on their patients which they were often happy about. I was able to perform numerous laceration repairs on various age ranges and different location such as face, hands and legs. I also got to successfully perform a great deal of ABGs, IVs, foreign body removal (from ear/nostril), DREs, and I&Ds.   I got to present patient cases to the attending/resident/PA in which they’d ask me about labs/imaging and subsequently an assessment and plan. Although I have gained confidence in my overall ability to assess and manage patients, I find that one of my weaknesses in the management portion in terms of appropriate dosages and duration. I hope with practice and experience my weakness will turn into a strength.
